The Greek Ministry of Immigration and Asylum Services has released a new list of safe countries.
After 29/01/2021 (for citizens of Pakistan and Bangladesh)
after 01/01/2020 (for citizens of other countries on the list) .The Greek government has published a list of countries that are generally considered safe for asylum seekers. This list came into effect on 29/01/2021.
The following are the fourteen countries in which Pakistan tops the list. These countries will generally not be considered eligible for asylum or political asylum.
Above all that they will still be able to apply on their own as an individual with proof and argument.
The details are as follows; Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Gambia, Albania, Georgia, Ukraine and Armenia.
The list of safe countries will remain the same, except for Pakistan and Bangladesh. This means that anyone from any of the countries on this list has applied for asylum in Greece. After 29/01/2021 (for citizens of Pakistan and Bangladesh) or after 01/01/2020 (for citizens of other countries on the list) Asylum seeker’s application will be decided in 30 days.
They will not normally be considered for the purpose or need for asylum and protection. In spite of all that the applicant still has the potential to prove otherwise. Just because a country is generally considered safe does not mean that it is safe for everyone.
Because of this, everyone applying for asylum in Greece needs to be accompanied by evidence and arguments to explain why the country is not safe for them .
Fast trackers of applicants;
It is also assumed that the full asylum procedure will be terminated for them in just 30 days .The white card will only be valid for a maximum of 30 days.
If an applicant from a protected country is rejected, the time limit for appeal will be shorter and the removal decision will be easier to enforce. Following the press release issued by the Greek government, there are strong fears that large numbers of people from these countries will be sent back to their home countries.
